Terry is the Chairman of the Board of London Broadcasting Company formed in 2007 to identify and acquire media and entertainment companies. Terry is currently serving on the Boards and is the designated “financial expert” of public companies Pier 1 Imports (NYSE: PIR), a specialty home furnishings retailer, and Johnson Outdoors, Inc. (NASDAQ: JOUT), an outdoor recreational manufacturer. Terry is the former President and CEO of Gaylord Entertainment Company (NYSE: GET). Gaylord Entertainment became a public company in 1991 through a spin-off transaction of The Oklahoma Publishing Company, which is a privately held company controlled by the Gaylord family of Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma Publishing Company owns The Daily Oklahoman, the state’s largest daily newspaper and the Five Star Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. Gaylord Entertainment, based in Nashville, Tennessee, was created as a diversified media and entertainment company including ownership or interests in such properties as TNN: The Nashville Network, CMT: Country Music Television, the world famous Grand Ole Opry, the Gaylord Hotels, the Opryland Theme Park, Acuff-Rose Music Publishing, Word Records, Cencom Cable, major market television stations, radio stations, movie and television production companies, Bass Pro Shops, The Texas Rangers, and Gaylord Sports Management. Gaylord Entertainment sold TNN and CMT to Viacom, Inc. in 1997 for $1.6 billion.
Terry began his 23-year career with the Gaylord family in 1978 as the Controller of The Oklahoma Publishing Company, became CFO of Gaylord Entertainment in 1991 at the date of the initial public offering, Executive Vice President in 1996 and President & CEO in 1997. During his career, Terry served on various boards representing Gaylord Entertainment including the boards of the Texas Rangers, Cencom Cable (now part of Charter Communications), and Bass Pro Shops. From 1973 to 1978, Terry worked in the Oklahoma City office of KPMG focusing on media, manufacturing and banking companies. A Certified Public Accountant, Terry is a graduate of Oklahoma State University (BS, Mathematics, 1971, MS, Accounting, 1973), played basketball for the legendary Henry P. Iba, and served as an officer in the US Army Reserves after graduating from the OSU ROTC program in 1973.
Terry has served on numerous civic and industry boards including the Country Music Association, the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, the American Diabetes Association and the BellSouth Senior Golf Classic at Opryland.
